Keeping Your Family’s Smiles Healthy
We know your family’s health and happiness is your biggest priority—it’s ours, too! That’s why we’ve dedicated our practice to keeping Midwest City families smiling through patient education and quality dental care. In recent years we’ve learned just how connected our oral and overall health are, so it’s our mission to provide comprehensive and diligent preventive care that facilitates total body wellness. We would rather see you twice yearly for cleanings and exams than have to treat tooth decay and gum disease and ultimately replace teeth—and we hope you agree!

Prevention Is The Best Medicine
If you’re looking for proactive, preventive dental care for your family, look no further than our caring team at Magnolia Family Dentistry. Get in touch with us today to get started!
Gum Disease
Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss for adults, and affects the large majority of us, too—many folks don’t even know they are infected. Gum disease is a bacterial infection of the gum tissue that develops when proper oral hygiene is not followed. Thankfully, we can help you prevent or treat gum disease and save your teeth!
Signs of gum disease:
- Bleeding gums
- Red or inflamed gums
- Bad taste in mouth
- Receding gums
- Loose teeth
Oral Hygiene
We know it’s cliché, but daily brushing and flossing, plus twice-yearly visits with Dr. Nels really are your best lines of defense against oral disease and decay.
- Brush teeth twice daily using small circular motions and a 45-degree angle.
- Floss daily, curving the floss in a c-shape rather than snapping it up and down.
- Rinse with water after eating, before brushing, and between meals throughout the day to minimize plaque and acidity.
- Visit our gentle and friendly hygiene team twice every year to remove tartar build-up and polish those pearly whites
Oral Cancer Screenings
Early Intervention & Peace Of Mind
Oral cancer is one of the deadliest forms of cancer because it is typically not diagnosed until late-stage. In a time where less than 15% of dentists screen their patients regularly for oral cancer, this doesn’t come as a surprise.
At Magnolia Family Dentistry, we’re dedicated to providing regular oral cancer screenings, so you can have peace of mind. If you fall into the high-risk categories or notice any abnormalities in your mouth, you should come see us for a screening right away.

Mouthguards
Your healthy smile is one of your greatest assets, but if you play any contact sports or you clench and grind your teeth at night, yours could be at risk! A high percentage of oral injuries are caused by sports accidents, many of which could have been prevented or minimized with the use of a mouthguard.
Chewing exerts 20-40 lbs. of pressure on your teeth, but clenching and grinding can exert 250 lbs. or more! Ouch! Over time, your jaw will be sore and your teeth will become worn down and eventually need to be restored. Thankfully, a custom nightguard can prevent these consequences.
Can’t I just buy one at the store?
Compared to stock or boil-and-bite mouthguards, custom mouthguards provide:
- Higher level of protection
- Better fit
- Increased comfort
- Improved durability
- Custom mouthguards may even minimize damage from concussions! Now that’s a wise decision.
I traveled out of town for a week and broke a tooth AND lost a filling within an hour of arriving in OKC. Dr. Nels was able to get me in that afternoon and put me back together well enough for me to continue my trip. I was able to eat right away and there were no issues afterwards. They also were sensitive to potential insurance complications with follow up charges from my regular dentist. Thanks so much!
- John M.I had a recurring problem with an implant done by my previous dentist. Dr. Nels fixed the issue and I have not had any more problems with a loose implant that would “fall off” at times. I also have a child with special needs who would have to be sedated to have her teeth cleaned. Once again, Dr. Nels, came through! She was able to clean and examine my child’s teeth without sedation. I am very glad to be a patient of Dr. Nels. She is wonderful!
- Elaine H.The staff is super nice and they work with you on payments. They don’t judge you if you haven’t been to the dentist in a while which was very important for me because I haven’t. During my procedure she stop several times and asked me if I needed a break. I greatly appreciate it.
- Cassy H.I’m not going to lie, I was pretty scared to go to the dentist. Although I’ve always taken good care of my teeth, it’s always a scary thought to go to the dentist and find something wrong. I must say this office was fantastic. Ever since I moved to OKC, I‘ve looked for a dentist that will not hurt my mouth (bad experience in the past). I can now say I found that place. Leaha is so knowledgeable and made me feel relaxed during the whole process. I highly recommend this place.
- David ADr. Nels is a very caring and talented dentist. You will feel at ease at Magnolia Family Dentistry, I highly recommend them!
- Calli MI called them on Monday morning. They scheduled an appt Tues morning. Arrive and from front counter receptionist to the dentist were very professional. They made me feel at ease and were always asking if I was ok… and after explaining my past experiences with dentists Leaha made this visit overwhelmingly pleasant. Kudos to you Leaha and Jackie. I’ll be back to see you both and will definitely recommend to everybody I know. Thanks for all you guys did.

- Elaine H.Dental Sealants
We do our best to provide thorough education and preventive care, but sometimes that’s just not enough to keep tooth decay at bay. Even the most diligent brushers and flossers sometimes suffer. Thankfully, we have dental sealants in our tool belt.
Sealants are most commonly used on kids’ baby teeth, but they can also be used for adults who struggle with tooth decay. Sealants are painted over every surface of the teeth to literally seal out cavity-causing acid, bacteria, and plaque. Thank goodness! Your teeth deserve protection, and we’re happy to provide that for you.
Extractions
We will always do everything in our power to avoid extraction, but sometimes removing a tooth is in your best interest. Maybe you have a tooth that’s badly decayed or broken, and is past the point of repair with a crown. Maybe you have a deep infection or a failed root canal. Maybe gum disease has left your teeth unable to support themselves.
Whatever the reason, we provide safe and comfortable extractions to eliminate the problem and get you back on the road to health. If your teen needs wisdom teeth extracted, we can refer you to a trusted specialist in our network.
